"Make friends here, allies, shoulders to cry on, anything then vice versa...if not to save you at least to keep yourself sane...if that makes sense."
» Appearance
Francis is much shorter than his brother, Phoebus. He is also younger than Phoebus, being 29 years old. As a Lieutenant, Francis wears silver armorplates and armor boots, but he can wear a chestplate occasionally. His tunic is of the same color scheme of Frollo's chaperon: purple with red and black stripes, and red fleur-de-lis decorated all over. Francis also has a long red cape and grayish blue breeches as well as dark maroon gloves. He has trans-masculine traits such as sideburns, a small goatee, and body hair all over. He also has bruises all over his body due to the several beatings done by Frollo.Personality
Francis is brash and sarcastic, with a quick and sharp wit. He often does this to cope with the situation he is in as Frollo's lieutenant. The ongoing situation that Francis is in often puts him under a large deal of stress and he also happens to be traumatized as a result. When confronted by Frollo, Francis becomes scared due to his boss's physical and emotional abuse. Because Francis is also the Lieutenant, he loathes the current Captain of the Guard, Marceau, due to a sexually and emotionally abusive relationship between them that happened in the past. However, when Francis befriends Bartholomew, Gabriel, and Clopin, he gains a positive change and puts his fear aside and stands up to Frollo.Story
Francis was once a nun in Orléans named "Marie-France De Martins", but as a transgender man, he was often bullied by the other boys in the city calling him "Wolf-girl" or the more complex "La louve d’Orleans". He would then leave his life of asceticism to join Frollo's Guard, as he admired the masculinity of being a soldier. Francis even considered Raoulin a role model, because Raoulin was a General and a war hero who had slain many Turks in the Ottoman-Venetian War. When Francis arrived at the Palace doorsteps in Paris, Frollo offered him the job he wanted, but the first moments as Lieutenant was anything but easy. Francis' mentor was Marceau, the Captain of the Guard, and the former captain of Raoulin's legion in the War. While being a mentor, Marceau groomed Francis to be in a sexually and emotionally abusive relationship, and even forced him to wear more feminine clothing at one point. Eventually, Francis broke off the relationship, hating the Captain with a fiery passion. Frollo wasn't easy with Francis either, as the abusive relationship between the two was only physical and emotional. Thus, Francis would develop a brash persona to cope with the stress and trauma, much to Raoulin's annoyance and anger.Soon, Francis would meet his two best friends: Gabriel, an artist who is an employee to Raoulin, and Clopin, a Roma puppeteer and the "King of Truands" in the Court of Miracles. Francis even befriended Bartholomew of Nice, Frollo's intern. On some occasions, Frollo would lighten up on Francis and gift him with new clothes. Even on the big day when Frollo was to be united with Raoulin, Francis was given the opportunity to ensure the adelphopoiesis runs smoothly. However, Francis disapproved Raoulin's choice to have Marceau as the best man in the wedding between the former and Jaqueline. As Frollo, Raoulin, and Jaqueline with Beau would live their perfect lives, Francis found love with Gabriel and Clopin in the Court of Miracles. On the day of the Feast of Fools, after Marceau was sentenced to be tortured by Frollo, Francis would personally kill Marceau for all of the abuse done to him. Everything changed when Esmeralda came later that day. Francis, like Gabriel and Clopin, would care for Esmeralda as well, and put his fear of Frollo aside. On the day of the siege in Notre Dame, Francis stood up against Frollo and his tyranny in the rebellion, and celebrated Frollo's death at the end. Francis would still reside in the Court of Miracles with Gabriel and Clopin, and checked on Gabriel when they were annoyed by Raoulin's ghost, which came five years after.
